Walla Walla gang member has pleaded guilty to shooting two Milton-Freewater men in March. Jacihel Contreras, 26, could get almost 23 years in prison for two counts of first-degree assault.
Contreras pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree assault. He is the second and last perpetrator to plead guilty to attacking four members of a Milton-Freewater family. In August, Fernando Saenz Jr., 23, pleaded guilty to the same charges for stabbing two of the men.
Superior Court Judge Donald W. Schacht sentenced Saenz to 28 1/2 years in prison, the upper end of the sentencing that Walla Walla County Deputy Prosecutor Joe Golden had recommended. Golden said Wednesday that Contreras faces about 17-23 years in prison, and Schacht will hand down the sentence Nov. 15 at 4 p.m.
The pair of offenders attacked Alan Roblero, 22, his younger brother, Osman Roblero, 21, their cousin Juan Robles, 22, and his uncle, Luis Camargo, 42. The group was celebrating the homecoming and departure of Roblero, a Marine who had completed a tour of duty in Iraq and was to leave for Afghanistan a month later. They arrived at a birthday party on March 13 around 2:15 a.m. at 1306 Center St. in Walla Walla and quickly found themselves in the midst of bloody gang violence.
Robles said they tried to get away when as many as 20 men surrounded them. Saenz stabbed Robles and Camargo, and Contreras shot the Roblero brothers.
Robles said he was stabbed four times in the back, deep enough to collapse his lungs, and once in an arm, tearing the bicep from the bone.
Contreras shot Alan Roblero in the face. The bullet entered above his eyebrow and lodged in his cheek. Contreras shot Osman Roblero twice in the chest. Alan Roblero said his brother is still recovering from those wounds.
Robles and Alan Roblero have expressed deep dissatisfaction with the plea deal Contreras got. Sunday’s East Oregonian will feature an interview with the two men.
