The US agents tracking down sex tourists in Cambodia

The US agents tracking down sex tourists in Cambodia: "As part of an initiative to protect children from sexual predators, including those who travel overseas, special US agents operating in South East Asia have brought more than 80 alleged child sex tourists back to America to face justice.

Sihanoukville looks like paradise, or at least a decent, low-rent version. Golden beaches, swaying palm trees, cheap alcohol and shimmering sea.

Retired American pharmacist Ronald Adams had come here for the good life - setting up a beachside cafe. But one morning last February Adams' personal vision of paradise was shattered, when officers from the Cambodian National Police raided his apartment.

They found a collection of sex aids, child pornography on DVDs and a variety of illegal drugs. Adams was accused of drugging and raping a 12-year-old girl."

Fred Martens | AFP allegedly stole and concealed documents

Fred Martens | AFP allegedly stole and concealed documents: "OFFICERS from the Australian Federal Police allegedly stole and concealed documents that could have helped a former pilot and businessman fight allegations he had raped a 14-year-old girl in PNG.

Fred Martens, a millionaire working in Papua New Guinea, served more than 2½ years in prison after being convicted under Australian child sex tourism laws. But after his family found some of the missing documents he earned a rare second appeal in November 2009 and had his conviction quashed.

In two multimillion-dollar compensation claims Mr Martens, 62, is now suing the Australian and PNG governments, and members of the AFP and PNG police, over their alleged misconduct. The claims allege his false prosecution led to the failure of his businesses and the loss of PNG assets - including 11 boats, six planes and dozens of construction and earth-moving vehicles."

Canada’s pitiful track record in combating human trafficking

Canada’s pitiful track record in combating human trafficking: "man far from home has no neighbours —so said the Japanese to rationalize the brutality of their soldiers in occupied lands before and during the Second World War, including the rape of women, the massacre of civilians and the beheading of prisoners.

Does this explanation also account for the behaviour of Canadian men who engage in sex-tourism abroad — in particular, the predators and pedophiles who prey on indentured women and children in foreign lands? Disturbingly, this is the conclusion I arrived at after reading Invisible Chains: Canada’s Underground World of Human Trafficking by Benjamin Perrin, an exposĆ© of Canada’s pitiful track record in combating sexual trafficking both at home and abroad.

Perrin is an assistant law professor at the University of British Columbia and the founder and executive director of The Future Group, an NGO he created in 2000 to combat human trafficking. A modern day William Wilberforce — the British abolitionist and activist — Perrin was named a “hero acting to end modern-day slavery” by Hillary Clinton and the U.S. State Department in 2009. He is the first Canadian to receive this honour."

Calgarian jailed in U.S. for child sex tourism | Canada | News | Toronto Sun

Calgarian jailed in U.S. for child sex tourism | Canada | News | Toronto Sun: "The former Calgary scout master once jailed for molesting choir singers has been sentenced to 25 years in a U.S. jail for operating a Thailand boy brothel geared toward touring pedophiles.

John Wrenshall, 64, won't be free until he's at least 85, U.S. Justice officials said following his sentencing in a New Jersey federal court Monday.

While shy of the 27-year maximum Wrenshall faced under sentencing guidelines, U.S. District Attorney Paul Fishman hailed the term as a victory in 'the most depraved case' he'd ever seen, in which Wrenshall pimped boys as young as three to sex tourists from around the globe.

'John Wrenshall created a place where innocent children were sexually brutalized as a vacation pastime,' Fishman said.

'Children represent what is best in us, and Wrenshall's monstrous conduct represents the worst.'"

Organizer of child sex ring in Thailand - Crime/Punishment

Organizer of child sex ring in Thailand - Crime/Punishment: "A Canadian man who admitted to running a sex ring involving young boys at his home in Thailand was sentenced by a federal judge in Newark, New Jersey, to 25 years in prison, court officials said Monday.

John Wrenshall pleaded guilty to three counts, including conspiracy to engage in sex tourism, conspiracy to produce child pornography and distribution of child pornography, U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman said in a statement.

'John Wrenshall created a place where innocent children were sexually brutalized as a vacation pastime,' Fishman said. 'It is fitting that a man who has condemned children to live with unimaginable scars for his pleasure and profit should spend decades of his own life in a prison cell.'"
